Well looks like the Oscars has regained its sense of showmanship and class at long last!

*sees Neil Patrick Harris in his underwear*...Maybe not.

Well Neil Patrick Harris got off to an amazing start at hosting the Oscars, and I like many couldn't wait to see him.  For a moment there it was like Dr Horrible had come back and was wonderful to see the celebration of the History of the motion picture told by sentimental song and dance, but then I don't know, it didn't seem like he was enjoying himself hosting.  After a while it was like watching a failed comedian.  Painful and ...robotic.  I Think he needed a co host to bounce off of through out the show instead of being on his own on stage.  Perhaps this was just too big a show for just one man to pull off.

The awards themselves were predictable though Meryl Streep was yet again snubbed.  Poor woman.  I still can't get over how much the Academy seems to hate marvel movies.  Seriously, fake moustaches are more impressive than all of this?  Are you kidding me???

The Oscar for best Animated feature went to the obvious choice, ...and I havn't seen Big Hero Six yet, but I still knew it would recieve the Oscar... though the presentation of the award was tarnished by Dwayne Johnson referring to animation as a  genre.  I'm sure Brad Bird would have punched him for that one...if it wasn't Dwayne Johnson of course.  I know these speaches are written for them but still...  I felt like throwing a shoe at my television.  Animation is STILL considered a juvinile thing, and I hate how the Oscars is stomping all over it, forcing it to remain a silly childish past time instead of a scientific and artistic marval.  This was a major step backwards in the development of animated movies being nominated in the best picture category.  It's happened three times so far in the last three decades.  Come on guys.
Highlights of an otherwise boring award show?  The performace of 'verything is Awesome' and 'Glory'.  Lady Gaga singing the 50th anniversary tribute to the Sound of Music before rugy tackling Julie Andrews when she walked on stage to present the oscar for best score.  I'm not a Gaga fan, but this performance may have converted me...maybe.

Most memorable moment in the whole show is probably the...awkward presentation of the Oscar for Best original song.  Idina Menzel in her demeaner takes everything in a gentle grace, while John Travolta just...tries way too hard.  It was a year ago, guys.  Get over it all ready.  It's just not funny anymore.

Overall, the oscars was predictable and started off with a sense of class and showmanship and then fell by the waistside.  Something felt a little disjointed and I can't quite place what it was.  Perhaps the academy realised it ignored the movies that truly deserved more attention and as has been said, is staring at its own Naval, celebrating artistic endevours instead of real life historic hardships.  Over all the show felt robotic in its delivery and lacked a sense of fun.  But it's good to see that the show is becoming much more politically based rather than focussing purely on ...'who are you wearing?'

Underneath all the glits and glamour, Hollywood feels like its growing up and being more sophisticaed, gritty  but losing sight of the class and showman ship it used to have.  This was not a fun award show.  There was no joy or excitement.  It was predictable, boring and...dated.  Well, let's see what happens next year.

(Pardon the old icon.  I use a much better one, now!)
Anyway, I finally had the opportunity to watch Big Hero Six.  Only a 3 on my scale of 1 to 5.  Compare this to the Box Trolls, which rates a 4, at least.  I rarely appreciate animated comic books and that scene, at the end of the credits, with an animated Stan Lee, did not improve my opinion.
